US military death toll in Afghanistan reaches 2,000 | The Times

The number of American soldiers killed in Afghanistan has reached 2,000 after an American serviceman was shot in error by Afghan soldiers.

The toll has climbed steadily in recent months with a spate of attacks by Afghan army and police against US and Nato troops. The rise in so-called green on blue attacks has raised doubts over the rate at which Western troops are withdrawing from Afghanistan and handing control over to local soldiers and police. The US is on track to pull all troops out of the country by 2014.
